When you need to kill someone, angle yourself out of cover so you can only see one person. And I broke stealth pretty often, but as long as you're behind solid cover and have a VSV. I'm usually a serial save scummer, so it's odd for me to defend the sometimes awkward checkpoint system in Metro, but overall I think it helped the game rather than hinder it. Seeing the spinning disc in the corner of the screen has never been so rewarding. I have never amped myself up so much for any part of a game, I paused and paced around a bit, stretched my hands, deep breath, and unpause. Then I realised there's another Librarian before the next checkpoint. A well timed stick of dynamite, switch straight to the auto shotgun, sprint for the masks as soon as the Librarian drops. I was on the verge of quitting and never coming back.īut I decided, no, I can do this. I died dozens of times, mostly suffocating, otherwise killed by the Librarian. Starting the Depository, the game autosaves and I realise my gas mask has about 10 seconds left, with a giant Librarian in between me and some filters. I had a similar situation, much later in the game, but it ended up being more entertaining and rewarding as a result.
